$15 jeans & a very old sweater

The best ensembles for me are usually "thrown together". Not that I don't care about my appearance, because trust me ... I DO! But simply because I know how to recycle my old clothes and make just about anything work. The sweater I'm sporting in this post has been mine for about three years now. Its just one of my fave pieces that no matter what, I'll never give away. Its from F21 and has a total of four holes - distressed if you will. But anytime the weather drops below 60, its a definite go-to for me! I just stick a cami underneath, and call it a day.
My jeans are from H&M! They're high waisted & have a grayish undertone, which make them extremely versatile. I caught them on sale for about $15 back in June. They for me so well & look cute with just about anything!
Pairing this sweater & these jeans was a simple look & can be created and re-created over an over again! Its timeless & forever in trend.

City Nights | ATL

Saturday nights in ATL were made for bellies full of gumbo & crab cake sliders, plus five sips of a "Georgia Peach Martini"... all compliments of Front Page News,
Late night strolls on Moreland Avenue,
featuring strange chicks playing fiddles and barking stray dogs.
Not to mention, Euclid provides the most stunning view of American Apparel!
Nothing's running other than MARTA & the mouth of a stranger you just so happen to be sharing the corner with,  before dodging the cars that never stop.
Ears filled with  the occasional chaos from the "let out" of a strip club mixed with pimp vibes & slow talk. The feeling of hope while watching couples hand in hand,
taking on the night with good intent.
Bougie chicks fronting like they've got it .. what ever "it" may be, and everyone's a rapper... or a producer. They get creative.

MINI FLYERS

I took a stab at digital design today & it looks like I did well! I designed my very own miniature flyers to promote my baby: J. BARB. And guess what ... I did them on my iPhone ^_^! Crafty, right?!  This weekend, I'll be in Atlanta not only to do a little shopping & site-seeing, but to NETWORK & PROMOTE!!!! The Lipstick Lineup is a very cool networking event taking place this weekend in "the A" and I will definitely be there. I am so very excited to be joining other ladies who are all doing pretty amazing things. I can't wait to hand out my mini flyers and spread the word about J. BARB!!! Stay tuned for this weekend's ensembles and pictures from The Lipstick Lineup.

'83ish

Have you guys ever watched FLASHDANCE? Its one of the most inspirational movies ever, seriously. Its definitely on my list of faves, so naturally I'd purchase a sweatshirt dedicated to this '80s film. It was released in 1983, not only did it give way to dance films, it featured some pretty significant style elements. Like wearing off-the-shoulder sweatshirts & tops.

I haven't shopped in almost over a year believe it or not. I mean, I've purchased items here and there, but its been a while since I've actually SPLURGED! My "old clothes" have become permanent staples lately. I've really been able to mix and match and create some pretty cool looks. This past weekend, I came across one of my old sweatshirts from High School and ummmm I graduated like 4 years ago... moving on! So I cut the neckline for a little D.I.Y. to sassy that cool off-the-shoulder look like the women in the 80's. Paired with a sleek pencil skirt and a pair of "stepping" pumps, this look came through! It'll seriously be one of my go-to looks for this Fall.

Chambray & Red Lips

I love mixing all of my plain and basic pieces together. One of my favorite combinations includes a pair of black jeans and a Chambray top. Chambray is a fashion forward favorite, & adds style to any  look, and I 'm all about simplicity. With my top, I slid on a pair of black skinnies, a white tee, a great pair of pumps and my favorite red lipstick: "Ruby Woo" by M.A.C.

I'm a sucker for freshly pressed blow outs, but messy buns are the next best thing. They're girly, chic and cute all at once! By throwing on a leopard print headband, I added some sass to my messy bun and an extra style element to my already simple look. As far as I'm concerned, leopard is a neutral... I think anyone with style sense would agree!

Black X Acid Wash

Now that my favorite denim jacket is too tight & has a hole in it, I thought I wouldn't be able to wear it anymore. Its hard to find good acid wash, so I decided to just hang on to it - "just in case". I figured I 'd find some use for it, & i did! This past Saturday, I went for a simple look... all black with a hint of acid wash. Since the jacket no longer fits me without pure suffocation, tying it around my waist was the next best thing!!! It is perfectly okay to turn old pieces into accessories!! The jacket added definition to my shape and "color" to this all black ensemble. Oh, and this pink wall made me feel really sassy.

Houndin'

My absolute favorite pattern is Houndstooth Check!! Wearing it just makes me feel fancy and fly. Its such a great way to wear black & white without being totally practical. Not to mention, it suits everyone's shape and creates a very "lady-like" appeal! This duotone textile pattern is an definite fall and winter essential- we all need a hint of it.

Earlier this year, I added my own hint of Houndstooth to my closet when I purchased this skirt. After several months of battling what top to wear with it, I finally wore it last night to my friend Bre's birthday celebration, and I fell in love all over again! Thinking to myself: Why on earth did it take me nearly 8 months to wear this thing??!!

Funky Little Flannel

Flannels will forever trend!! They're legit style statements and not just a part of the lumberjack community. From buffalo check to plain plaid, they put the perfect finishing touch on just about any ensemble. With vibrant colors, cool patterns & perfect textures, you just can't go wrong! Its chic to wear jeans and a plain white tee, but adding a flannel and a pair of high heels can provide a lil' extra flavor. Plus they're perfect for fall (my favorite season). Here's how I styled my funky little flannel...

boring black

Some say black is easy and safe. I say black is simple and flattering... chic at its best! There are a million ways to do black of course, but I'm a simplistic soul. I prefer to be plain and boring. Here's my spin on an all black "outfit", featuring my new favorite shoes!! Let's take a minute to discuss these shoes. So I peeped these little ladies in the sales section of Dillard's a couple of weeks ago. Originally priced at nearly $200, I took full ownership of these shoes at a total of $48.15!!! BCBG is always so good to me, I was a very happy Janée :)

Blue Jeans x White Shirt

Well who doesn't love a good pair of jeans? Denim is hot & trending right now, and with a million ways to dress it up, or dress it down, I've simply decided to be plain. Pairing a good white tee with the right wash makes for a simple, yet stylish look. My best friend introduced me to "mom jeans" earlier this year & it took me months to finally go out and get a pair. I thought I wouldn't be able to pull them off since I'm so petite, but I'm so glad that I did!! These jeans have become my absolute fave. With a great pair of pumps and my denim clutch, I was ready to take on the world! In my blue jeans and my white shirt.
