Pretty Stuff: 4 Things To Do When You're Feeling A Little Down

We've officially entered the last part of the year, aka "crunch time." It is now November, the holidays are quickly approaching, and a whole new year is on its way. Seems wild, right? I really can't believe 2017 zoomed by the way it did. It has really been one heck of a year! Things can seem a little overwhelming at this time for many, I know I can personally testify. In fact, last Thursday I posted a photo on Instagram and the caption simply read, "Overwhelmed, but it's okay." So many of my followers commented or sent me a DM saying that they could relate along with some encouraging words. That's what inspired me to write this blog post. We all have a lot going on, it's a part of life. But with the many things that seem like obstacles, there's still so much to have joy in. Let me help you get through the end of the year without feeling defeated. These are just a few things I do to remind myself that everything is okay when it seems like my world is falling apart.

1.Wake up with intention!

The first thing I do every day is thank God for waking me up. Do you realize what a blessing it is to open your eyes in the morning? It means that God still has work for you. Your life matters and your presence serves a purpose. Stop dreading waking up in the morning! Instead, look at it as a new opportunity to experience the day and do something dope.

2. Choose an anthem.

One thing we all love is music and I know all too well how much better a great song makes me feel. There's always that one song that puts you on top of the world. You put it on maximum volume, sing your heart out, and before you know it you're having a solo concert. In that very moment, your mood is lit and you ARE a star! Play the song that gives you those feels and you'll end up uplifting yourself. Music is medicine. For me, anything by Beyoncé or Solange does the trick! They didn't release Lemonade and A Seat at the Table for nothing.

3. Cherish the day.

Put your phone away and find something beautiful in nature. Whether it be the sky or the way it feels outside, trust me there's something out there that'll make you feel good. It's fall, and this is one of the most beautiful seasons for nature. I love flowers, and can usually find a bunch of pretty ones growing somewhere. I mean you can always buy a bouquet from the market, but it's nice to see them blooming where they're planted. It inspires me to do the same. Allow the sun to sit on your skin a little, feel nature's warmth. There's a lot outside that we should really adore.

4. Treat Yo' Self!

This is my favorite thing to do. Who better to spoil you than you? Buy something or do something to put a smile on your own face. A manicure, a glass of champagne, binge-watching The Mindy Project on Hulu; there's something that makes your heart flutters. Whatever that thing is, you deserve it. Treating Yo'Self is definitely a great way to feel good inside. In fact, I wrote a whole piece about the art of it for the Goddess Culture blog. Read it here

I really hope these things help you find peace of mind. Life is full of ups and downs. It is so beautiful, but it will never be perfect. Just remember that there's something to smile about Always!
